Our Layout

A fish eye overview

Jason Powers took this general overview of the layout usuing wide angle lens. Hopefully he'll get us some better shots soon.

South Bound at the Helix Siding

Dynamic brakes are howling and brake dust fills the air as C&O 6023 heads south bound with a general frieght. The train will enter the helix to the lower level in about another ten feet. Don Sillence engine, scenery by Ken Leach. Photo by Rich Ivins.

Switching at RJ Rohde Mills

Rohde Mills has grown to the point the owners decided they needed to buy a switcher to reduce the cost of paying the SJV switching fees. A fresh coat of paint makes the owners of this 2nd hand switcher happy. Rich Ivins photo

The SJVRR in 1966

Back in the beginning, the club was located in Mishawaka, in a private house across the street from Bob's Hobby Shop. Here are a few photo's from those early days

The Engine Storage area was a busy place on the early layout

Time for lunch.

Since the dispatcher told the crew of this southbound through freight that they're going to be here a while, they decided to get a bite at a favorite local restaurant. Club 27 is the hot spot (and only spot) in Derbin City. SJV engine, scenery, structure and photo by Rich Ivins.

Mainline Traffic

Heavy mainline traffic passes Fluke Tools several times daily.

Goofing Off

Rich Ivins bought a new lens for his camera. Here we see Rich (foreground mugging for the camera), Denny (sitting on the left), Little Joe (standing), Duane (sitting in the background), and Don (over Rich's shoulder) taking a break.

Don as Godzilla

Here we see more of us relaxing. We think Don is trying to get a role as Godzilla in some upcoming production.

Signals

Westbound trains get a friendly wave from the Signal Maintainer as they pass under the cantilever bridge at the east end of Prosper on Jim Chamberlin's Pacific River and South Independence layout.

Eastbound Special

Its will be a short wait for the Eastbound 'Special' to pass the local freight holed-up at Prosper on Jim Chamberlin's Pacific River and South Independence layout.
